LVT(A)-1

Description

After the bloody battle of Tarawa, the Marines realized the initial landing forces needed more direct fire support. Armed with the turret from the M3 Stuart tank, the LVT(A)-1 waded ashore with the first wave to fulfill this role. However, the 37mm cannon was found to be too small, so the LVT(A)-4 was introduced with a powerful 75 mm howitzer to blast the Japanese strongholds and pillboxes.
